Program Description
Mission
The G/T Writers Guild, set in a Writers Workshop format, provides instruction by exposing highly able students to exemplary techniques and tools and offers opportunities for talented, motivated writers to excel and to develop their unique voices. Throughout the workshop, students will maintain a portfolio of polished work to be submitted for publication.
The G/T Writers Guild in the School This curriculum extension is designed to maintain author authority while providing the time for students to receive peer and teacher response and feedback. It places students at the center of evaluating their own growth as writers by encouraging them to use metacognitive reflection skills.
Role of the G/T Resource Teacher At the beginning of the school year, the G/T Resource Teacher will meet with the 6th and 7th grade G/T English teachers to identify participants. The Writers Guild will meet at least two times per month for a class period, and the curriculum from the G/T English class will be compacted to allow writers to work with their G/T Resource Teacher. The partnership between the G/T Resource Teacher and the 7th grade G/T English teacher is a crucial component to the success of the Writers Guild. Since the expertise of the English teacher is an invaluable asset to the program, G/T Resource Teachers should collaborate with the classroom teacher on identification of students as well as on curriculum considerations.

are able to write for a variety of audiences

can work independently
have a passionate desire to put words on paper
